A dance of the dead (Fresco, ~1490, Hrastovlje/Slowenia)
Halloween is near, so it’s time for some scary medieval insights. The subject of the danse macabre was invented during the 14th century, under the impression of the black death. It features an allegorical depiction of the dead, dancing with the living, knowing, that death is inevitable.
